Sample Session 2 – U10/12 Intramural

 

  • Warm Up
    • 5v2 in a controlled area
    • Start with 3 touch – advance to one touch
    • Point for each split pass between defenders
    • Dynamic Stretching
  • Footwork: 
    • Emphasis:  Balance & Agility / Field Awareness / Technical Skills
    • Coaching Points:  Both feet / Be Dynamic
    • Phase 1 - Grid to dribble in (40 yards by 40 yards)
      • Move how comfortable with the ball using both feet and all parts of the feet
      • Call out direction such as:
        • Change speed
        • Change direction
        • Make a move
          • Pullback and Turn
          • Fake inside and go outside with outside of foot
          • Fake shot and increase speed
          • Step over
    • Dynamic Stretching

 

Overlay…1 or 2 players without a ball need to capture one.Player losing his/her ball needs to gain a new one from anyone except the person who took theirs.

 

  • Warm up:
    • Emphasis:  Communication / Balance & Agility / Technical Skills / Field Awareness
    • Coaching Points:  Be in control dribbling / Communicate
    • Phase 1 (5 cones 20 yards apart – Diamond plus 1 cone in the middle)
      • 2 players on the two end cones with a ball plus 1 additional player on the other cones
      • Players 1 and 3 dribble to the cone arriving at the same time.  Right hand – 90 degree - turn on the left side of the cone and accelerate to the outside cone
      • Players 2 and 4 (starting point was the outside cones) perform the same activity
      • Continue to repeat then switch direction
        • Go to right foot only
        • Go to left foot only
        • Perform inside of the foot turns
        • Perform outside of the foot turns
    • Phase 2
      • Same layout as above
      • 2 players on the starting cone – 1 player on each of the others
      • Player 1 passes to the cone to the right – upon Player 2 receiving the ball player 1 checks to the player to receive the return pass – player 1 plays the ball across the grid to player 3 – upon player 3 receiving the ball player 2 checks to for the return pass then plays the ball to player 4.
      • Goal is to get the game to 1 touch passing

 

  • Small sided games: 
    • Emphasis:  Communication / Recognizing Support / Supporting or Defending Counter Attacks
    • Coaching Points:  Find space to get open / support midfield play
    • Phase 1 (40 x 25 grid with gate goals)
      • 5v5 with 2 neutral players always supporting offense
      • Neutral players restricted to 3 touch
      • Neutral players must remain in the middle 3rd of the field
      • Score by dribbling or passing from close range through the gate
    • Phase 2
      • Same as above with neutral players restricted to the outside of the field
    • Phase 3
      • Same as above but remove neutral players and go to 6v6
      • Emphasize creating space in the midfield and on the outside of the field
